The problem is "conservative" (anything but, fiscally speaking) administrations of late don't enforce the regulations, leading to the carte blanche attitude toward corporate abuses. Then once some of them start, they all rush to the troughs like greedy pigs and slop up our public wealth.

That's what happened with reagan's S+L un-regulation and zero enforceement, and that's what's been happening with Bush-Cheney on energy gouging, Halliburton, mine safety, rich tax cheaters, polluters, FEMA abuses, etc. etc. etc

And we are on target to add 7-9 trillion to the national deficit due to the Bush-Cheney years alone. Coming off the surpluses of the Clinton years.

Because so-called "conservatives" get the government completely off the backs of business until there are no "security people guarding the casinos". Then everyone cheats. So by plan or just by sheer neglect, we are being badly ripped off by all kinds of powerful fat cats and special interests linked to the Bush-Cheney crowd, especially in those areas where competition turns to collusion and becomes non-existent, like Big Energy.
