It is a strange campaign. You'd think with the Democrats having a contentious primary the Republicans would seize the opportunity, but no. Their candidate turns out to be a guy who racks up enormous casino debts, two Atlantic City casinos had to go after him in court to get their money. John Rowland would probably get more votes if he ran from his prison cell. Speaking of prison, the guy the Republicans ran against Lieberman 6 years ago is now serving a 37 year stretch. They're unbelievable.

There is a saving grace, however. This Republican will get on the ballot if she gets enough signatures.

Race for US Senate Gets Crowded
by Christine Stuart

With less than five months left until election day, state Rep. Diana Urban, R-North Stonington, will attempt to petition her way into the U.S. Senate race by collecting 7,500 signatures by Aug. 9.

A later comer to the race, Urban will attempt to challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman, who will run as an independent candidate if he loses the primary Aug. 8 to his Democratic challenger Ned Lamont. If Urban makes it onto the ballot she will also have to challenge her own party’s endorsed candidate Alan Schlesinger, whose candidacy has recently been plagued by news of his gambling habits.
