Just as you don't believe there should be no government regulation at all, I don't think the government should regulate everything at all times.

But if history teaches us anything about large, powerful companies, it teaches us that they will pollute and take no responsibility for it, sell defective and/or dangerous products and cover it up, and cheat less powerful companies and people if they can get away with it. By their nature, publicly owned conglomerates are motivated almost exclusively by profit.

As part of its role in ensuring security for the people, the government is obligated to keep the larger public good in mind, and to regulate the behavior of individuals and corporations to prevent public harm.

Can this be overdone? Yes. But in itself, it isn't a bad thing.
