Foolishness, even dangerous foolishness that results in horrible destruction and calamity and oppression, isn't the same thing as idiocy or insanity.

It might be better to have a lunatic or an imbecile than a great fool with some level of intelligence. An intelligent fool is quite dangerous as he can convince others that his foolishness is correct.

If Marx was simply a raving maniac the world would possibly have been spared a lot of horror. Unfortunately he was a fool with a following.
