Why is it funny? It should be a Church matter. If the couple wants a secular ceremony there could be private companies to handle the certificates and keep them on file, like some states have abstract companies that keep deeds and titles to real property on file.

My opinion on same sex marriage has changed a bit over time. I used to be opposed, now it seems to me civil unions would be acceptable. I had a bartending gig a few years ago and a regular customer was a gay guy who enjoyed discussing politics. We talked about this issue, and one point he made was spousal benefits are denied gay couples. Why should you or I deny them that right?

Yes, I am married, with no kids. If we had kids I might take back everything I just said. <g>
