Well sir, it's a pleasure to see someone with an understanding of strategic as well as tactical strategy. Clearing the area makes little sense otherwise - it's like chasing fleas on a pigs back. When the Kahn's armies marched thru islam in the 1200's, there were no known enemies left in his wake. Now the Mongols knew how to handle the islamist situation correctly. I visited a small town in Pakistan a number of years back, Bambor was the name as I recall; it was being archeologically excavated. The point is, the Mongols killed every living thing and piled the corpses 12-feet deep in the streets. The sands just blew in and buried the village.
