Let's see, you started out claiming $170K for a new 3,500 sf home. You then post a link to a site that will build a solid poured concrete wall 3,000 home on your lot for $234K.

I'd suggest you take a closer look at the site you posted.

For a custom stick built home, $100 per foot, plus land, plus labor is going to get you in the ballpark for rough estimating purposes. Obviously you can buy a trailer, a modular home, or some sort of corner cutting prefab deal for less, but that's not apples for apples. Custom wood framing on a foundation is your basic standard.
