This orderliness holds throughout the day in all of our interactions with others. We don't fully know what makes this work so well in a nation of 300 million diverse citizens. It isn't laws, which rarely need to be invoked day-by-day. We aren't forced to help others, sometimes at the risk of our lives, but we do it because we ought.
That is why an open society works better than a closed society. At the end of the day, 300 million people get to vote on what is best. At the end of the day, the best literature, the best music, the best works of art survive.
Some stuff get hyped and for a short period of time people get duped and the stuff becomes a fad. Over the long term, if the fad has no real value, it goes away.
That is why a command economy is not as good as a free economy. No matter how smart the people are that think they know better, they rarely ever get it right when they try to pick winners and losers.
When everything is open and transparent, what is true and or what works best emerges.
Of course human nature being what it is, we all think what we feel and know is the truth. Some of us will try to hide stuff and keep others from making up their minds by hiding stuff.
Once the truth emerges, it can never be put back into the box. There will be people who will try to hide the truth and depending on how good they are, they could suppress the truth for quite some time. However, over the long term, the truth will emerge.
For somethings, it may take several life times before it finally gets enough traction and can not be put back in the box again. |
