Rigor mortis takes 2 to 8 hours to develop. There is a kind of instant rigor mortis that can set in, called "cadaveric response' I think. Sometimes it might only be part of the body such as a hand or arm. It usually represents death occurring at a moment of stress, such as a runner dropping dead of heartattack. It is seen sometimes in drownings, attacks i.e. where victims are struggling to survive. And it can create difficulty determing time of death.

Remembering the pictures of the Cana victims with their arms contorted up in the air suggests to me people who died trying to claw their way out of the rubble.

This is my last post on the subject...huge waste of time.
