To the locals, elk are pests. I live in a "primitive weapon" hunting area (bows and muzzleloaders only), and there's about a 60% success rate among hunters. Nearby hunting units allow modern firearms, and they have about 80-90% success rate. Those that don't score are usually the ones who stay in camp all day or drink too much at night. <G>

In the early Fall, the dang things wake me up at night. Until the last couple of years, there were more elk than people in this county. Lots of subdivisions going in around here now, so the population is growing faster than the elk herds. Personally, I prefer the elk. <G>
