Another example of democratic justice taking root in Iraq. I hope that the trial will incorporate all of the elements of the law in ways that it would be prosecuted in the U.S.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is right in reviewing foreign troops immunity from prosecution under Iraqi law. I also hope the trial is open to anyone who wishes to attend. If these men are guilty of this horrendous crime they should receive the harshest sentence possible.

Rape is a serious and ongoing criminal problem, although rapes in the U.S. have inexplicably declined by more than 85% from 1979 to 2004. Despite positive gains made to combat this heinous crime here it continues to be a growing and serious problem for much of the rest of the world.

Thankfully, the women of Iraq are now able to report this crime to the proper authorities, unlike the years when SH and his freewheeling thugs blatantly raped at will without fear of punishment or retribution.
