The Stalinesque purge of Joe Lieberman is a case in point. If Lieberman is defeated, no Democrat will dare to stand up against the hard-Left party line.

I think a Stalinesque purge was one where the purged individual was dragged away without recourse and either executed or left to perish in a slave camp as an enemy combatant (or enemy of the state, whatever).
I missed where this happened to Lieberman.
I believe it was OK that a party can actually select its own representatives, from people who the party considers best represent it...

So if a Senator is no longer felt to be the best representative, by the party who he nominally represents, then he should stand down, yes? Or is someone free to say and do and support whom they like, once elected, regardless of the platform on which they were elected?
