I think we call it democracy when the people speak, and a candidate goes down in flames. If Lieberman is defeated, then it means what he is selling isn't valued by enough people. That's hardly Stalinesque- that's democracy and a free market of ideas. It's easy to rail about how creepy it all is when the people elect someone who doesn't embrace your ideas, or reject someone who supports them- but people need to remember that when a candidate they don't like is rejected, they don't have the same concerns about Papa Stalin :-)

Poor Joe. It's tough to lose- but that's the way it is with a political race- there will be winners and losers. It's just sour grapes to condemn the system when your man isn't good enough to win. IMO, of course.
