It's true that a lot of people parachuted in, but the Lamont campaign started with locals, mostly people associated with the Connecticut Citizen's Action Group, an activist group that goes back to the 60s. It's not as fringe as it sounds, a lot of officeholders got their start working with them.

The Lamont campaign would never have gotten off the ground without support from Democrat Town Committee members, of which there were many. When I saw Lamont bumper stickers on cars in the Legislative Office Building parking garage back in March or April, I knew Joe had a problem.
