Re: "I say, kick them all out of the US...."

France has been after the UN headquarters for DECADES --- they actually wanted it badly for Paris in the beginning when US pressure insured that New York was selected instead.

The US tried so hard to land the UN because they believed that having the headquarters for the ONLY global government parliament on American soil would ENHANCE US prestige and power.

(Most folks --- especially our enemies during the Cold War years, the USSR, China, etc. --- believed also that it was a sign of US political power... that the entire 'world had to come to the US, not the other way around'.)

But, I'm *sure* France or Switzerland (the other finalist when the original choice of site was being agreed to) would still *love* to have it! :-)

Personally, I don't care (I'd like to see a replacement for the UN, or a reformed UN, where small countries don't have as much power, and economic power is reflected in voting strength)... but I'd urge you to be 'careful what you wish for' haqihana, 'cause you just might get it!

How happy would you be if the headquarters were in Paris, or Bern, or Bejing?
