Yes, too much energy.
There are AMD notebooks which are for powerusers, and they just have to be portable, that is to say, the batteries don't have to last more than 30 minutes or so while people take them from work to home and plug them in.

The think pads are used by a lot of travelers. A major criteria for traveling notebooks is that you must be able to watch a 2 hour DVD on a single battery (which is about the same as 2 hours in the WiFi coffee shop). AMD is a bit too powerhungry for that, although as I wrote, they are working on it.
