I'm glad to hear that there are still people out there!
The feeling I get is that there are a lot of people who love Dark Reign and a few vocal people who think the game is poorly conceived. I appreciate the honest replies here. There seem to be a few bugs with the game, most notably the lack of multiplayer saves which is a definite must and needs to be addressed in a patch soon.
Hexen II has gotten good reviews but I think it is being overshadowed by the impending release of Quake II.
Legacy of Kain has gotten pretty good reviews too...
Overall, Dark Reign should sell well, despite the stiff competition. Seems like people are taking a wait and see attitude with Total Annihilation out and getting good reviews,Starcraft from Blizzard, Rebellion from Lucas Arts, 7th Legion, etc. coming out. The key here is promotion and multiplayer support and word of mouth. Apparently a demo is set to be released in mid-October.
These games companies have got to start releasing more games during the first, second and third quarters. Legacy of Kain, for instance, might have done well if it were released during quieter times, when gamers drool over any new release. However, now, with the slew of titles coming out, only the really big names like Quake II are going to get any sales at all. Parents can't afford more than a $50 box of software in their kids' stockings this year or any year.
