The American Taliban is one term used by those in the Middle/Left to describe our religious statist zealots on the American Right. The problem is when mainstream Democrats actually start calling things as they should be called, like Theocratic and Facist, they become marginalized. Most Americans would rather see our country through rosed colored glasses than see the dictatorship the rightwing is trying to impose.

This whole Ned Lamont candidacy is very revealing. Rightwingers up and down were lining up to support Send In The Troops Joe Liberman. Ned Lamont stands up to the American military establishment and says enough is enough, time for a sane alternative, and the American rightwing paints the peacenik as extreme and a sign the Democrats are becoming a peace party. For conservatives, apparently the idea that we should ultimately strive for peace is just not something they are capable of contemplating, and anyone who sees otherwise is a radical, insurgent or otherwise unpatriotic American.
