Truth is lieberman lost by a few votes to a motivated left wing demo base. It means nothing nationally nor for general elections. But demos will probably read too much into it and McGovern will return as candidate in 08 in deans $75 suit to be crushed by any reasonable, non bush republican. And Lieberman will win the general election unless the republicans seek out a more powerful candidate on their side, counting on the split dem vote.
When i dream a bit, i think the independent lieberman could become a key player in any new indy mod party that might be formed one day to supplant either or both of the left wing demos or the far right reps. More likely to be demos as reps see the handwriting on the wall and rush toward the center.
