Steve; This copper process combined with the .16 u will cut the heat and thus up the speed greatly, and yield twic as many chips per wafer(all other things equal) I AMD makes a deal with IBM to ship sand they could ramp up within 6 months to a threatening level.
So I think that Intel will falter this fall(crash to 50-60%). But they are richer and smarter than me, maybe they see it coming too?. What advance defensive moves would Intel take in such a situation?(other than price cuts)
1 Marriage of DRAM, Chip set and CPU sales to control market?
2 Denial of this combo to betrayers(Companies who buy AMD/Cyrix)
3 Postponement of large fabs(on the quiet, look for lower construction activity)
4 Further integration into system making, to the point of becoming the major box maker, allowing virtually any box to be fabbed for via std motherboard footprint.
5 Strategic link to Dell etc, where the implement a ship to order for a number of standardized boxes. No stock/inventory etc for those allies, thus lower prices.
6 ??
