Perhaps I'll change my Lipitor Sales estimate to an increase of 5-10%. :^)

Coincidentally I received in the mail today a package from my insurance company consisting of a pitch for me to switch to a generic statin and explaining how much money I could save. Even included a mostly-filled out prescription blank for me to send to my doctor.

I don't think there's ever been a push like this before. The insurance companies should of course have done this with Prilosec but they were too shortsighted and went with the OTC push instead. If they were really smart they would sponsor a trial of 40mg prilosec vs 20 mg Nexium or the standard dose of Protonix - I bet they could show equivalence and then mount the same sort of push.
