If I wanted to ban you, I would ban you. There's nothing stopping me. I have all the power here, and I can do what I want. What I wanted you to do was to back up your statements.

I'm not sure why the NYT is relevant. Does their sloppy use of opinions, masquerading as facts, somehow justify you in doing the same thing? I'm not even sure what opinions you think are showing up on the news pages. No doubt we can get in to that later. Sounds fascinating. But again, it's another topic and not really related to what you post. And I really doubt the NYT is going to say, in a news story, that politician "A" is dishonest when they have no proof that the politician is actually dishonest. That's really a statement of fact rather than an opinion- I know we've been calling it opinion, but that's pure generosity on my part.

As for your last sentence, my post in no way addressed whether or not the topics you brought up were valid topics which could be discussed politely. I'm not sure how you could possibly have interpreted my post the way you did, but you are quite incorrect. My post merely addressed the fact that discussing anything with someone who merely wants to offer an opinion, or a "fact" masquerading as an opinion, and who then doesn't want to back up their statements with anything concrete, is rather boring and pointless. Where's the value in a completely unsubstantiated opinion? Even worse, where's the value in reading opinions you suspect cannot be backed up? That was the point.
