Some things to consider: You seem obsessed with a collapse of law and order. The first thing the goldlovers are thinking about though is just plain old inflation. To deal with the latter you need to spread your gold around the world and leave current location when things get tough. My father's family went through both in the first half of the 20th century. If they just invested in German land and stocks I likely wouldn't be here :)
