American Technology Corporation and Moog Inc. Team on Ruggedized Remotely Operated LRAD(TM) System for Security Applications SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2006--American Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:ATCO), known for its proprietary directed acoustic and innovations expertise in military and commercial directed sound products and solutions, and Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG-A), known for its expertise in the design, development and production of high performance motion control systems and motion simulators, announced today they have jointly developed a ruggedized remotely controlled directed, focused acoustic energy system for use in remotely operated commercial and military security applications.
The directional acoustic system, known as the Remotely Controlled Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD-R(TM)), is a turnkey security solution that enables users to determine the intent of potential security threats as well as readily communicate over distance (up to or in excess of 500 meters) from a remote location. The LRAD-R features high acoustic output (peak acoustic levels of 151 dB at the emitter unit), providing a highly effective volume controlled communications and hailing and warning capability.
LRAD-R consists of an LRAD(TM) emitter head, pan/tilt device for precise audio targeting, on-board camera to aid in the tracking/aiming of the acoustic energy, software with easy-to-use graphical user interface, and all associated cables and power electronics with a simple two-cable connection for all power requirements and all standard and optional signals. Optional accessories such as laser rangefinders, laser dazzlers and spotlights can also be integrated into the system. The system has been specifically developed for use in a variety of harsh military and commercial applications, including maritime, gas and oil (platform and pipeline protection), large utility and chemical plant infrastructures, and other applications where low maintenance, trouble-free operation is a must.
The custom software allows complete, easy-to-use control of multiple LRAD-R systems. The software also includes an MP3 player and file manager for customized vocal recording, on-board system diagnostic tools for real-time system equipment health monitoring, display for video input from on-board camera, video and audio recording capabilities to accurately record "events of interest," and a host of other advanced features.
"We are seeing a large, developing international market for this robust remote controlled solution that meets the requirements of a wide array of military, government and commercial security applications," said David Carnevale, vice president of marketing and business development for American Technology Corporation.
LRAD-R is expected to be available in Q4 2006 from Moog Inc., American Technology Corporation and ATC's worldwide resellers.
