The W'habbis are *SUNNIS* (a branch of conservative Sunnism spawned and fed in Saudi Arabia).
The Persians are mostly *SHIITES*, (and so are 60%+ of the Iraqis, many Syrians and Lebanese... and minorities elsewhere).
Hezbollah is SHIITE.
Hamas is SUNNI.
THEY DON'T LIKE EACH OTHER.
IN FACT, THE W'HABBIS LOOK MORE FAVORABLY ON CHRISTIANS AND JEWS ('PEOPLE OF THE BOOK') THEN THEY DO SHIITES ('APOSTATES', 'SPAWNS OF THE DEVIL', ETC.)
They would actually be more likely to kill each other then others... particularly if we stopped being foreign occupiers in Middle Eastern lands... for that is about the ONLY THING that unites them in ANY SIGNIFICANT WAY.
Take that away --- as in: pull back from the Iraq occupation --- and the inter-Islamic civil war is on, with Iraq as it's first battle ground, and Sunni nations lined up on one side, and Shiites on the other.

Best way to allow this beneficial process to proceed (hopefully to a much-needed "Islamic Reformation"), would be to REMOVE THE ONLY EXCUSE THE RADICALS FROM OPPOSING SIDES HAVE TO COOPERATE WITH EACH OTHER, AND GET OUR GUYS OUT OF IRAQ. Then the Islamic war can proceed, the radicals and terrorists can fight EACH OTHER, and the author's desired Islamic Reformation can have a CHANCE of happening in our lifetimes!

WHY does this dingbat ignore the Shiites?????????? W'habbism, has NO MORE chance of dominating then radical Shia'ism does. Most likely they will BOTH fight each other to exhaustion... and BOTH sets of radicals will be discredited with the broader public... allowing moderation and toleration to emerge.

And... calling this piece an 'historical review of the Iraq situation', when it says PRACTICALLY *NOTHING* about Iraq, doesn't even *mention* the main actors... (and even fails to reference the founding of the 'modern', and rather 'artificial', nation of 'Iraq'... when three separate Ottoman provinces were stitched together over drinks one afternoon by T.E. Lawrence and W. Churchill, in an attempt to come up with an ethnically and religiously divided enough 'nation' that it would be EASY to rule by foreign colonialists, a 'plan' that fell and went 'splat' rather quickly...) is really rich. |
