I'm hearing that the Israeli failures in Lebanon can be laid at the feet of Peretz and Olmert, who, having no military experience themselves, let themselves be led by the nose by the hawkish military into the current misadventure. The hawkish military apprently convinced them that an air campaign would be effective. They have scapegoated the head military leader on the ground, but haven't seemed to have learned anything. Sharon would have supposedly had more sense and negotiated for the two soldiers, though it might have caused some political pain.
