Air France-KLM Revenue Up 11.9 Percent to $7.47 Billion in 1Q on Higher Passenger Traffic

PARIS (AP) -- Air France-KLM said Thursday that it's fiscal first-quarter revenue rose 11.9 percent to euro5.8 billion ($7.47 billion) as higher passenger numbers offset rising fuel costs.
The airline -- the world's largest terms of operating revenues -- said in a statement that the figure was up from euro5.19 billion ($6.68 billion) a year ago. The revenue growth was slightly higher than analysts' expectations of about 11 percent.

"This very good performance was driven by all sectors and especially by the passenger business," Air France-KLM said.

Total passenger revenue was up 12.1 percent to euro4.6 billion ($5.92 billion) compared to euro4.12 billion ($5.31 billion) a year ago.

Total cargo revenue rose 10.5 percent to euro729 million ($938.9 million) compared to euro660 million ($850 million) a year ago and maintenance revenue in the first quarter was up 8.5 percent to euro231 million ($297.5 million) compared to euro213 million ($274 million) a year ago.

The revenue report comes the same day a new fuel surcharge on all Air France commercial flights goes into effect, including a euro7 ($9) rise on long-haul flights.

Air France-KLM will announce full first-quarter earnings Aug. 31.
