Left or Right, Israelis Are Pro-War
Is this a result of careful thought, or simply being overwhelmed by disinformation? Let's read on:
There is no real peace camp in Israel right now, says Yariv Oppenheimer, the secretary general of Peace Now, which has pressed hard for a deal with the Palestinians and on June 22, before this Lebanon war, called for a halt to air raids over the Gaza Strip. “We’re a left-wing Zionist movement, and we believe that Israel has the legitimate right to defend itself,” Mr. Oppenheimer said. “We’re not pacifists. Unlike in Gaza or the West Bank, Israel isn’t occupying Lebanese territory or trying to control the lives of Lebanese. The only occupier there is Hezbollah, and Israel is trying to defend itself.”
Before Hezbollah kidnapped the Israeli soldiers:
1. Israel was occupying Shebaa Farms 2. Israel was holding Lebanese prisoners 3. Israel was frequently flying into Lebanon with fighter jets to terrorize the population 4. Israel did explode a car bomb in Lebanon On May 26 5. Israel's Shin Bet was caught running a spy operation in Beirut.
So, Oppenheimer's entire premise is false.
Furthermore, as is quite obvious to any sane analyst, Hezbollah was reacting to the Israeli war crimes in Gaza. They were trying to take some pressure off the besieged Palestinians. A self-described defender of Palestinian rights and opponent of the Gaza raids should factor that into the equation.
