Silicon will be around for quite awhile and will not be readily replaced by GAs yet. On the GAs forefront, Vitesse in Colorado Springs, CO will be ramping up one of the first 6" GAs facilities. Gallium Arsenide wafers are much more expensive than silicon and the 6" wafers must cost a bloody fortune, IMO.

Its been awhile since I researched the major providers of GAs wafers so a new seatch needs to be done to determine if there are any new players out there.
