"an alleged civil war, so what?"
Are you NUTS?
Nothing 'alleged' about it! Just like the 'alleged' Iron Curtain or the 'alleged' moon landing, LOL! (Check with the C.I.A. if you are curious....)
"I would suggest they lost their freedom to Syria and have never regained it."
Er... Syria came in and ended the fighting of the civil war. Then Bush (supporting the Lebanese who'd suffered under the Syrian boot) helped to kick the Syrians out.
(Have you been *away* for a long period of time, and maybe missed getting newspapers and TV where you were? Been 'out-of-the-loop' or off-planet or something?)
"As it stands, Lebanon is actually a conquered/occupied nation. Hezbalah has occupied Lebanon as a puppet for Iran years for over twenty years."
Now, Hezbollah certainly is a creature of Iran (both Shiite), but it's also been elected into the Lebanese government (just as the Sunni organization Hamas is in the Palestinian government), and just as a lot of radical Shiites are in the Iraqi government. But remember: Lebanon has a lot of poor Shiite farmers and such... who traditionally have been marginalized in Lebanese society (kinda like 'hillbillies' :-), left out of the profits of the society by the richer Sunnis and Christians and Druze. The coming of Democracy has brought political representation to them for the first time....
"It seem to this observer that the Lebanese lack the will to react in their own self-interest."
Really? Does it now?
"Isn't it odd, Israel may be offering Lebanon it's only ticket to national survival."
LOL, yep! And the polls show so many of the Lebanese *really appreciate* all of that thoughtful 'help'. :-)
(What makes you so sure Israel doesn't mainly just want a WEAK and DIVIDED Lebanon --- and, to Hell with any Democracy up there... and to divert all the WATER they can from the Litani River? After all, Israel is pretty short on fresh water... with about one third of what they use daily already coming from the occupied Golan Heights....) |
