I have recently purchased shares in ostk and then bought more today. Listening to the conference call Byrne admitted that the flow of the business had gotten away from them in 2006 and mistakes were made. Now that they have implemented a new Oracle system they feel that they have much better control of who the serious buyers are, what the right inventory to stock is, and if there are problems with inventory and returns relating to a specific supplier. They realize that having satisfied customers and repeat business is key. Mr.Byrne reminds me of a small business owner who is really trying to develp a sustainable business over time rather than a ceo/cfo trying to make a presentation for wall street. I derive further solace that the stock at least earlier in 2006 was well regarded by some value players such as ffh, which owns about 15% of OSTK now and the turn around fund which had 15% of its portfolio in OSTK as of 6/30/06. I also believes that should the OSTK model prove successful and profitable the ensuing short sqeeze should be fun to watch. I hope othere will contribute to this thread.
