Just ran across this thread and the discussion of "family style" dining reminded me of my favorite destination - Mount Assiniboine Lodge in the Canadian Rockies. Built in the late 1920 this is a rustic log lodge and cabins not far from Banff. Rustic but very comfortable with wonderful meals served family style. A maximum of 30 guests in total are served family style around 3 large tables so you have lots of opportunity for discussion with your fellow guests. Lunches are packed for taking out hiking, fishing or skiing. The lodge is 30 kilometres from the nearest road so it is a long hike or a 15 minute helicopter ride. No electricity, phones, TV and very few people - not a better place to get away from everything! They have a rather poor website at:

agt.net

- very slow to load so be patient!
