Just a footnote to my fantasy:
The dissolution of the state of Israel would foil the apocalyptic visions of the Christian end-timers, forestall the Rapture they lust for and save us all from eternal hell-fire. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Of course, since more than one religion believes that anyone who doesn't follow them is going to hell, and if they're right, then we're all going to hell anyway. But in the meantime, what a lesson to humanity! The Jews have given a great deal to the world. But Israel has lost its way. What a gift this would be now, every Israeli and every Palestinian embodying the Second Coming, embodying the Mahdi in themselves. No more waiting, because it isn't about the land, dammit!!
There might be a few sticky wrinkles to work out, like the protection of all the religious sites, but laying down your arms, declaring an end to war and putting your life in the hands of your enemy would be very, so very, well.....wouldn't it be something? |
