I don't know about Aug. 22 possibilities. I know they love the symbolism of their religious dates and love using them, but I don't know enough about this to make any kind of prediction.

Reading the threads yesterday and a bit this morning, two recurring misunderstandings jump out at me on almost every thread. Somehow the WOT has become conflated with the Iraq War and opposition to Iraq taken for a denial of the WOT.

Terrorism exists, it is spreading, and we must deal with it. Many of the Iraq war opponents support the WOT fully. The success yesterday for them was an indication that it can be successfully and better fought with great police work and cooperation. They don't believe that Iraq was the correct step to take at the time, but they are not in denial about the WOT, the threat, they are not all pacifists or wimps.

The other problem is related to the first: a dichotomy keeps being forced -that if you don't support the Iraq War, you advocate doing nothing. I believe the conservatives are playing on this politically right now. I honestly haven't seen an antiwar person say we should do nothing, or deny the WOT. Where the problem lies, is that we are there, and rehashing serves no purpose at this point. To constantly protest something that we can't change is a waste of time. Better to focus on alternate proposals and solutions.
