I agree....nobody thinks there is not a threat to the United States. At least no one I have met in any walk of life since 9/11/2001.

Where there is legitimate room for debate always, and the debate should continue and not be seen as partisan, is whether our leaders are focusing resource in the best directions to protect America.

That phrase is huge: "protect America". It can be argued that the fight in Iraq is the best way to protect America. It can be argued that the Iraq experience has taken resource, energy and focus away from better priorities to protect America.

Remember how criticized Kerry was in 2004 from claiming that a primary way to battle terrorism was to focus on domestic areas, much as a "policing" action? Well, the brits have shown that internal as well as external focus can be effective. Kerry was certainly not ALL wrong in his statement - internal law enforcement has a critical role. Or at least we can debate that fact.

When the President comes off as preachy and speaks the obvious and clearly understood fact that we are in danger (as he did yesterday as if we children can't quite grasp it, I don't think it is effective. The very fact that 24 hours later there is so much legitimate debate about our focus tells me that many don't believe he gets it..unlike most of the American people.
