Was it a big machine, INVN size, or a handheld? There are such liquid analysis machines on the market already, and some of that group are being tested for the security market.
Keep in mind, at this point they are slow.
Some use raman spectroscopy, some use infrared spectroscopy,
others employ inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry,
and there are other types as well.
