Iraq was already a mess times 10 from what you see today before the war. It simply wasn't being seen on our nightly news.

There are terrorists in Iraq, the same kind of terrorists who want to blow up planes and plant bombs in American cities. Every day we kill or capture a few more of them. It's an asynchronous war. It won't be over in a few years and it will never be over if we pull back and lose our resolve. Being in the heart of the cesspool gains us a better perspective of the dangers and how to combat them. We keep learning. And we keep building alliances where it matters the most, at the street level between one American soldier and one Iraq citizen.

It's no panacea, but neither is leaving.

The strategy employed after 9/11 has been successful at it's root level. We've had no more attacks in the U.S. And we've removed a horrible dictator who used the national wealth of Iraq to support terror cells around the world.

How many people would have predicted that nearly 5 years ago?

The frustration many are having is they better understand how many of these sick-bastards are out there, and they believe it's impossible to do much about them, because their numbers are so great.

We hid our head and pretended the problem wasn't too big for decades and decades. We didn't want to believe hatred controlled so many people. It didn't impact many of our lives.

We were wrong. And now we're trying to make things right. It's going to take a long time, but as the world’s only superpower capable of taking on this task it is up to us.

No, it's not fair that our sons and daughters should risk their life and die for a responsibility that should be shared by every free nation on earth. Sometimes life isn't fair. Unfortunately, we can't change everyones mind and get them to understand the threat they face. They are satisfied being able to sip red wine and spend the day at the beach while America takes care of the bad guys.
