Plus, Brooks points out, we Dems are stuck with Nancy Pelosi for the next two years, which should just about kill any chance for a White House win in 2008.

Pelosi is a huge liability for the Dems.

Perhaps Lieberman's defeat will be the harbinger of a new force in US politics--sensible conservatism coupled with social moderation and a no-nonsense approach to national security.

But remember what third party candidates on the right or the left have generally done which is elect the candidate whose views they are more opposed to. Perot gave us Clinton while Nader, bless his stubborn idealistic little heart, gave us W.
