No, I think Apple's iPod was the first or one of the first to use the micro hard drives. If I'm not mistaken most of the mp3 players were solid state. Apples use of hard drives was revolutionary and risky.

Of course the integration with iTunes and software on the computer is part of their overall design concept.

I believe they were fairly specific about the subcontracted designs.

I must say it IS interesting to find out that they did subcontract so much of the details. I think that's really an asset. Considering how much they've made I'm sure the cost of the sub designers was a pittance. If someone can do it better and cheaper why not hire them and take the profits? That's smart not egotistical.

The more I understand Apple the more their design strategies and tactics impress me. Like a good general contractor they know all the quality subs.

What ever. iPods sold way Way WAY better than I predicted.
