What we have practiced at home is what we should preach around the world, not "bombs and soldiers" The Pax Americana allows global free trade in goods, ideas, and people to flourish. I am not saying that it's all good, what we do, but it's also not all bad. Without peace, there is chaos. Some chaos is good, it means freedom, but some chaos is bad, warlords preying on the weak. Every town needs a school, and a hospital, but also a sheriff and a courthouse and a jail. So I don't see it as an "either or" proposition. Jails are horrible places but letting criminals run free is worse. Killing is bad, but sometimes it must be done, if the alternative is that the person you are killing is trying to kill others.
