Re DU. Ever heard of the expression "what goes around comes around?" If the real terrorists wanted to reply in kind, there is plenty of highly radioactive waste spread all over the former USSR just waiting to be picked up and spread around just using standard explosive materials. I believe the recent thwarted attack on planes were just some young misguided muslim idealists wanting to strike back at the many injuries and deaths caused in the countries where they live. Almost certainly is was an operation where the intelligence services put them up for the job. Rather then putting out the terrorist fire though, we seem to like to panic, overreact and become hysterical. Rather then remove any of the components that cause terrorism we are leaving gas tanks full of reasons why is should spread and become commonplace. Would you and you family allow spent DU munitions to corrode away within a mile of where you live? Second, DU penetrators buried near the ground surface have corroded, rapidly losing 25% of their mass over seven years. The DU penetrators will corrode completely within 25 - 35 years after impact. unep.org Each penetrator weighs several kilograms. Each gram of DU emits 15000 Bq of radiation that can be ingested once it becomes an oxidized powder and spread into the local environment. Personally I would not want any of that stuff near any water source that I might use. i.e keep it at least hundreds of miles away from where I live. If you look at the numbers, the numbers of deaths and injuries caused by the "war on terror" and compare it to or own losses there is hardly any comparison. I would like to see this stoopid "terrorist wars" go away. It seems blatantly obvious to me though we are stirring up a terrorist war. The invasion of Iraq is a clear example of this intention by George Bush, Tony Blair, the neocons, and the industrial miltary complex. Everybody will suffer from this foolishness.
