I also can't figure out why anyone thinks a building cut or blown up would fall faster than one that is just barrelling it's way down floor by floor. It's not as if it stops when it hits a floor and then starts up again. the whole debris package just punches through on it's way to a gravitational minimum.

If anything a cut building would fall slower because it doesn't have the accumulating weight and momentum of the falling debris pile.
