I don't know what 'so close' means to you.... but, as I said, one STARTS with a hypothesis, then, once sufficient independently confirmed supporting facts are produced, at some point the hypothesis becomes regarded as a 'theory'.

Then, if OVERWHELMING supportive evidence is produced, it becomes a 'generally accepted theory' as in the theory of sexual selection in evolution, or the theory of gravity, etc.
