I just saw the same news about today's New England Journal of Medicine article on Glaxo's zanamivir in the Wall Street Journal IA - it said the drug "can cut a bout of flu almost in half", especially if the symptoms are bad or if taken soon after the misery strikes - said it is still being tested and a more extensive test is planned during this year's flu season-said it works against both A and B strains. The best part of the WSJIA article from Qdel's point of view is this comment: "Besides the need to get treated quickly, another drawback of the treatment is the sometimes difficult chore of diagnosing exactly who has the flu. No simple test exists, and doctors are typically guided by symptoms alone. In the latest research, doctors enrolled 417 suspected flu cases in the study. However, one quarter of the European patients and half of the Americans turned out not to have the flu at all."

Well, guess what - give Qdel a few more months and they will have just the test that is needed!!!!!
