I'll accept that one of the definitions of idealism is a pursuit of some mental image of perfection or excellence, but if you go to a thesaurus, you find many synonyms that involve positive terms like high-minded, noble, hopefulness.

As much as I am usually a stickler for words and usage, I think you are stretching this. The poster says these "were just some young misguided muslim idealists wanting to strike back at the many injuries and deaths caused in the countries where they live."

If so, that isn't idealism, it's vengeance. And to word it as he does (particularly the use of the word "just some young people", actually negates the concept of some grand over-reaching ideal and sounds more like teenagers sneaking out at night for a little playful vandalism. And misguided is a rather mild term meaning misled, led astray, acting on an error as in "well-intentioned but misguided efforts; misguided do-gooders.." This isn't acting on an error, this is planned murder of thousands; one young couple was apparently planning to take their six month old infant with them and use its formula for the explosive. Misguided?

While I understand your technical point and usually am with you on those kinds of distinctions, I can't accept the poster's use of these terms as anything but apologetic in tone.
