Not its the dominant model for political reasons.

Having the not just security and private arbitration but all of the police and judicial system be private could in theory work, and even be highly efficient, but its something that's never really been tried. Arguments can be made that it would be more or less efficient than our current system (with most of the "more efficient arguments" coming from anarcho-capitalists). I am somewhat dubious about the claims of anarcho-capitalists. I see a role for a small government, not essentially no government (or competing quasi governments).

Private military forces have actually worked in the past, but mercenary forces have some major problems. Two examples of the major problems 1 - If they are powerful enough to conquer the enemy they may be powerful enough to set their leader up as dictator. 2 - A potential major free rider problem, although I suppose they could be government contractors rather then either government or fully private. That might not be a good anarchy-capitalist solution but than I'm not an anarcho-capitalist. Still I think our military does a good enough job. Perhaps it doesn't use money efficiently, but still that's not enough for me to support private armies.

Education is very different than an army.
