Iran or Syria funded or continues to fund Hezbollah doesn't affect how Hezbollah came into existance. It's also true that Hezbollah makes their own decisions. Iran doesn't own Hezbollah, nor does Syria

Ah, but the universal report is that Iran DOES own Hizbullah. The reports used to be that Iran gave it $100 million a year; now it's been raised to $250 million; it's not just gossip, it's toting up all the stuff that Hizbullah got. Silkworm missiles don't come cheap. The reports also state that Nasrallah is subservient to Tehran and that he's not allowed to fire the long range missiles on his own, which is probably why we didn't see more of them fired. The best way to think of Hizbullah is as Iran's Foreign Legion. Does the commander of the Foreign Legion make his own decisions? Yes. Is he an autonomous actor? No way. There's no telling how Hizbullah would have developed left to its devices, but it wouldn't have been like this. Now Hizbullah doesn't act in Lebanese interests at all.

Blitzkrieg is conventional war. This is asymetric war.

It was half-and-half. On one hand, Hizbullah wore no uniforms and used civilians as human body armor. That part is assymetric. On the other hand, Hizbullah fought to hold it's ground from fortified bunkers, using armor and anti-tank missiles. That part is entirely conventional.

Are the Israelis willing to accept a war on Hezbollah's terms with the commensurate casualites? Not today.

Not today but soon, I have a feeling. This was round one.
