I will guess that when many Jews look at Arabs, they don't see people who look like their second cousin - they see the OTHER.

Add in a huge cultural, economic, and education gap.

Probably the way that most AMERICAN Jews would feel and the way a lot of the Ashkenazi cultural elite might feel. I don't think it is the way the Sepharadim feel or many of most of the Orthodox in Israel feel. For these groups it is like the Croats and Serbs probably feel about each other :)
