Good exhange of posts. From the Military people I have talked to-Ranger types- Hezbollah modern weapons, tunnels, bunkers and especially the new Russian Anti-tank weapons have leveled the playing. So your analysis is basically correct. The ceasefire was probably a good thing for now to give Israel time to evaluate the situation based on their experience. Airpower can't get at the Hezbollah and bombing just creates fortifications for them to hide behind and shoot their antitank weapons.
As to Iraq, the wisdom of the invasion is a time will tell-history decison. We may be better off there with Syria,Shias, Iran causing problems in ME. Humitarian, terrorist, WMD and UN-Ceasefire agreements all seem to now justify the invasion, based on graves found, evidence of people, ISG reports, IIS documents, interviews of scientists there etc. But the long term outcome is another question. Far from being too occupied with Iraq, We are now in the thick of things with our bases in Iraq, next to both Syria and Iran and our bases in Afghan. We have them surrounded and We or Israeli can fly over Iraq to attack whoever, whenever. I am not promoting anything, just stating the obvious military situation.
Israel's problem with Hezbollah , I hear is being studied at the Pentagon and War College. We will have the same problems with our next battle with the Muslims wherever it may be.
Maybe bigger bombs are the answer. MOAB and FADBs . I don't know.
