@Bush interpretation of Lebanon conflict -- trotsky, 12:06:21 08/15/06 Tue
once more it is proved beyond a doubt that the man is completely delusional. note the geostrategic backdrop of the Lebanon war - its aim was to get Hizballah out of the picture to prepare the ground for the upcoming war against Iran.
the massive failure of the Lebanon undertaking would normally be interpreted as a good sign by the 'reality based community'. it seemingly makes an Iran war more unlikely, and by extension, makes it more likely that diplomacy will actually be tried for a change.
not so if we take the warped view of the world of the Emperor into account. he seems to think that the sowing of more chaos in the ME was on balance a good thing.
the 100ds of dead civilians don't even rate a mention - they're only collateral 'birth pangs' damage after all.
note that apart from the military failure (Hizballah is everything BUT defeated), the war also failed in achieving its major secondary aim, namely to create discord between Hizballah and the rest of Lebanon. this sort of explodes a favorite neo-con 'theory' about Iran, which holds that the population will blame the Mullah regime if the country gets bombed by the US. not that anyone with even a shred of common sense didn't know that anyway, but Lebanon surely serves as incontrovertible proof of the opposite - even Iran's internal opposition is bound to rally around its government in case of an attack.
however, i get the feeling that once again, the fantasy world in Shrub's head is painting a picture totally divorced from reality. although this has not been discussed anywhere as far as i'm aware, i'm beginning to suspect that his brand of faith may be close to the Rvd. Hagee's apocalyptic dispensationalism - this is the ONLY conclusion that really fits his behavior pattern completely. if so, then we have TWO apocalyptics bent on unleashing hell on earth - since Iran's president Ahmedinejad is LIKEWISE a big fan of the same fairy tale, only in its Islamic version.
who would have thought that the world's fate at the beginning the 21st century would hinge on the whims of a bunch of religious nutcases? this is truly mind-boggling.
